I don't know whether you're strictly allowed to feel something akin to homesickness when you look at a photograph of a place where you have never lived, but this photo makes me feel that way. We stayed at Annex Katsutaro Ryokan at the beginning and end of our holiday, and taking the five minute walk from Nippori station to the ryokan at the end of each day was one of my favourite simple experiences. This street was almost like a market with the shopkeepers spilling out onto the pavement to display their goods, and to try and entice passers-by. We didn't shop along the street often, but each and every time I walked down the street, I couldn't wipe the grin off my face; I just loved the quaintness of it all so much. That's me in the bottom right of the photograph, trying to figure out what exactly is for sale at this little stall. To the right of the photo, there is a small carpark, where we saw heaps of stray cats running about each morning and evening.
