Cherry blossom tree in Ginza

We were lucky enough to arrive in Japan before the end of hanami (cherry blossom time), and the country was scattered with the beautiful baby pink flowers for nearly a week before they began to disappear. Having heard about the cherry blossom season, and the fact that it is a major attraction, I was expecting it to be big, big, big. Wandering through Ueno Park, one of the most popular cherry blossom desinations in Tokyo, I could see why there was such appeal, however, I had expected there to be more coverage than what I actually saw. Maybe we didn't make our way to the most densely packed cherry tree area. Regardless, the trees are stunning, and you can find one or two in the most unexpected places, like these ones nestled amongst the high rise buildings in the posh Tokyo area of Ginza. It's amazing how quickly I began to accept the trees as just part of the scenery, and it wasn't until all the blossoms had fallen to the ground that I realised just how gorgeous the country had been while they were there.
